The beautiful weaving work that you see here is made by Sra. Paty & her family from Santo Tomas Jalieza, Oaxaca, a community renowned for their skilled artisans who specializes on a pre-hispanic technique called "Telar de Cintura", or Back Strap Loom. 9 out of 10 families in this community rely on this art as their livelihood. The technique is passed down from generation to generation taught by the elders at a very young age. This weaving technique consists on weaving threads on a loom with a fixed anchorage at the waist of the weaver. there is an incredible amount of skill and dedicated time that goes into these handmade pieces. To achieve the different colors, cotton threads are dyed with natural colorants that come from plants and insects, such as Zacatlascal, añil, and other cacti.
You can use these pieces as table runners or foot of bed.

El hermoso trabajo de tejido que ves aquí ha sido elaborado por la Sra. Paty de Santo Tomás Jalieza, Oaxaca. Una comunidad dedicada al telar de cintura. Un instrumento que desde la época prehispánica ayudó a la mujer mesoamericana en la elaboración de la vestimenta y que le permitió desarrollar su creatividad en una variedad de diseños y telas. Esta técnica de tejido consiste en tejer hilos en un telar con un anclaje fijo en la cintura del tejedor. Hay una increíble cantidad de habilidad y tiempo dedicado al proceso de producción de estas piezas hechas a mano. Para lograr los diferentes colores, los hilos de algodón se tiñen con colorantes naturales que provienen de plantas e insectos, como el zacatlascal, el añil y otros cactus.
